A bit about me:
Welcome to my Olympia High School science web page. My name is Rachel Haber and I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.
Education:
Scripps College
I received my bachelors degree from Scripps College in Claremont California where I tried out several majors before landing on a combined geology and astronomy major titled Earth, Planet, and Space Science and a physics minor. I spent a summer working for LASP (Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics) in preparation for my culminating thesis. During the project I focused on defining the origin of the Terra Meridiani region of Mars.
University of Canterbury
I spent a year of my undergraduate degree abroad in New Zealand studying geology and physics at the University of Canterbury. While there I developed a love of the outdoors and I finally decided to major in geology.
University or Oregon
I earned credits toward my teaching license and received a masters of education at the University of Oregon. While there I worked with incoming freshmen in a physical sciences class and eighth graders for an integrated science endorsement I also taught juniors and seniors in regular and IB Physics classes for my physics endorsement.
Interests:
Performing Arts:
I began dancing when I learned to walk. I spent most of my life focusing on Tap Dance. In high school, and throughout college, I performed and worked in theaters acting, stage managing, building costumes, directing, and teaching. I spent three summers working at the Columbia Gorge School of Theater teaching mask making, costume design, and capoeira as well as directing One-Act shows.
Outdoors:
I love hiking, backpacking and all forms of camping.
Capoeira:
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that incorporates dance and singing. I began studying capoeira in high school and have practiced off and on ever since.
I started training at Capoeira Besouro in Santa Monica CA.
